POST EARTHQUAKE RECOVERY PISCO
PERU, 2011

In 2007, Pisco was the epicenter of one of the biggest earthquakes Perú has faced. Miguel Grau is a community in Pisco that was deeply damaged because of its closeness to the ocean. The community was destroyed because of the tsunami that followed the earthquake on August 15th, 2007.

In 2011 working together with "Espacio Expresión", a non profit focused in affordable resilient strategies we develop a campaign of social consciousness to encourage the community to keep the streets clean and to create stronger bonds between them. Together, with the community we planned a public space for the area, from choosing which kind of program they would want, to finding voluntaries to build the space an intense collaboration was made. Having as a result a space where the whole community was involved, and with paintings on its walls to remember to be aware of the contamination of the wetland surrounding them,

Especially after suffering the damages of the earthquake, and to live in poor conditions, having the oportunity to remind them that they have the right to have public space and a clean town was the best teaching for them and for us.
